오늘 아침 출근길

This story happened when
I went to work this morning.
I rushed to work because I left home
20 minutes later than usual.

오늘 아침, 출근길에 일어났던 일입니다.
평소보다 20분이나 늦게 출발한 탓에
부랴부랴 회사로 향했습니다.


Given that the more I leave home late,
the heavier traffic congestion is,
I thought I was uneasy for being late for work.
Therefore, I was paying all of my attention
changing traffic lanes this way and
that to get to work as soon as possible.

시간이 늦을수록 점차적으로 심해지는
교통체증 때문에 지각하면 큰일이겠다 싶어서
최대한 빨리 가려고 차선을 이리저리 변경하며
신경을 곤두세우고 있었습니다.


Cars were waiting at the signal
and the traffic light changed from red to green.
While all cars on next lanes started,
the van alone in front of my car did not move.

사거리에서 신호대기를 하고 있는데,
초록색 불로 바뀌고 난 후 옆 차선의 차들은
다 출발하는데 제 앞에 있는 승합차만
출발을 안 하고 있는 것이었습니다.


I was becoming increasingly impatient
as I was late for work.
So, I sounded a horn "beep."
After a while, a driver got out of the car with
emergency light turning on and sent hand signal
to car drivers standing behind to step aside
because his car was out of order.

출근시간이 늦어져서 급해진 마음에
클랙션을 빵! 하고 눌렀습니다.
잠시 후 차에 비상등이 켜지며 운전자가 차에서
나오더니 차에 이상이 생겼다며 뒤차들에게
옆차선으로 비켜서 가라는 수신호를 하더군요.


The traffic light had already changed from
green to red when I tried to change traffic lane.
I almost got annoyed as I was impatient.
After stepping my car aside,
I saw the driver explaining to a woman,
seemingly his wife, something in detail

차선을 변경해서 가려고 하는데, 이미
신호는 빨간불로 바뀌고 말았습니다.
순간 급한 마음이 살짝 짜증이 나려고 했습니다.
옆차선으로 옮기고 나서 보니까 차에서
운전자 아저씨가 부인으로 보이는 아주머니에게
뭔가 차근차근 설명하는 모습이 보였습니다.


After a while, the woman sat in a driver's seat
and the man started to push the rear of the car
that emergency light turned on.

잠시 후 아주머니는 운전석에 앉았고
비상등을 켜 두었던 승합차 뒤로 아저씨가
가더니 차를 밀기 시작하였습니다.


While the car moved well at first, it didn't move
later as the street was slightly steep.
The traffic light changed from red to green when
I was watching him try to move the car waiting
at the signal.

처음에는 잘 움직였지만 그 길이 살짝
경사가 있어서 나중에는 움직이지 않았습니다.
신호대기를 하면서 차안에서 그 모습을
지켜보고 있는데 횡단보도 신호등이 켜졌습니다.


A man in training suit, who tried to cross the road,
started to push the rear of the car together.
Then, a lady in a dress suit standing together,
a male student in school uniform trying to
going to school, a young boy heading for
kindergarten with his mother, were starting to
push the car all together.

길을 건너려던 등산복 차림의 한 아저씨가
승합차 뒤쪽으로 가서 함께 차를 밀기 시작했습니다.
그러더니 함께 서있던 정장차림의 아가씨도,
학교에 가려고 하던 교복차림의 남학생도,
엄마와 함께 유치원에 가려고 하던 꼬마도
모두 차를 밀기 시작하더라고요.


Although I was becoming annoying this morning,
I feel that I gain quite precious experience.

살짝 짜증이 나려고 했었던 오늘 아침에
무엇보다도 소중한 세상경험을 하나 쌓은 기분입니다.


I guess that those who pushed the car together
did not expect any rewards. Helping each other
in life may be the source of joy of life.

함께 차를 밀어주었던 사람들의 마음에는
보상에 대한 어떤 기대심리도 없었겠지요.
서로 도와가면서 살아가는 것,
그것이 바로 세상사는 맛이 아닌가 싶네요.
