허름한 우동집-사랑밭

There is a shabby noodle restaurant called
'Old House' that is located in a back street
near Samgakji of Yongsan-gu in Seoul.
The shabby noodle restaurant has only four tables.

서울 용산의 삼각지 뒷골목엔
'옛집'이라는 간판이 걸린
허름한 국수집이 있다.
달랑 탁자는 4개뿐인...


For the last 25 years, the old woman who
runs the shabby noodle restaurant has made
noodle dishes with anchovy sauce cooked
over a slow a briquette fire.

주인 할머니는 25년을 한결같이
연탄불로 뭉근하게 멸치국물을 우려내
그 멸치국물에 국수를 말아낸다.


Prices for the noodle dishes remain at
two thousand won for 10 years,
And customers are allowed to eat as much as they like.
Several years ago, this noodle restaurant was
introduced on SBS TV.
After the noodle restaurant was introduced on SBS TV,
one man made a call to a producer who was in charged
of the SBS program. All of a sudden, the caller said,
"Thank you very much and thank you very much".

10년이 넘게 국수 값은 2,000원에 묶어놓고도
면은 얼마든지 달라는 대로 더 준다.
몇 년 전에 이 집이 SBS TV에 소개된 뒤
나이 지긋한 남자가 담당 PD에게 전화를 걸어
다짜고짜 '감사합니다'를 연발했다.


The man who called to the producer got swindled
about 15 years ago.
He lost all his fortune and his wife left him.
The man wandered from restaurant to restaurant
around the Yongsan Station to beg one meal.

전화를 걸어온 남자는 15년 전 사기를 당해
재산을 들어먹고 아내까지 떠나버렸다.
용산 역 앞을 배회하던 그는 식당들을
찾아다니며 한 끼를 구걸했다.


Since the man was expelled from restaurants repeatedly,
The man feel aggravated and decided to set fire
to a restaurant with gasoline.
Finally the man entered to the old woman’s noodle
restaurant and took a seat.

음식점마다 쫓겨나기를 거듭하다보니 독이 올랐다.
휘발유를 뿌려 불 질러 버리겠다고 마음먹었다.
할머니네 국수집에까지 가게 된 사내는
자리부터 차지하고 앉았다.


As soon the man has eaten in a hurry,
the old woman gave one more dish of noodles and soup.
The man ate two dishes of noodles and sneaked away.
The old woman came out the restaurant with shouting.

나온 국수를 허겁지겁 먹자
할머니가 그릇을 빼앗아갔다.
그러더니 국수와 국물을 한가득 다시 내줬다.
두 그릇치를 퍼 넣은 그는 냅다 도망쳤다.
할머니가 쫓아 나오면서 뒤에 대고 소리쳤다.


"You don’t need to pay for the noodle dishes!
Go slow if you don’t want to be hurt!"
Thanks to her words, the man throws away all his
hate against the world.

"그냥 가, 뛰지 말구. 다쳐!"
그 한 마디에 사내는 세상에 품은 증오를 버렸다.
