인디언 기상 예보관(사랑밭 새벽편지)

A film crew was on location
deep in the desert.

한 영화감독이 사막 한가운데에서
영화를 찍게 되었다.


One day,
an old Indian went up to the director and said,
"Tomorrow rain."
The next day it rained.

영화 촬영이 한참 진행되던 어느 날,
늙은 인디언 한명이 찾아와서 말했다.
"내일 비."
그리고는 다음날 정말 비가 내렸다.


A week later,
the Indian went up to the director and said,
"Tomorrow storm."
The next day there was such a hailstorm
they couldn’t shoot.

일주일 뒤 인디언이 다시 찾아왔다.
"내일 태풍."
다음날 정말 태풍이 와서 촬영을 하지 못했다.


"This Indian is incredible,"
said the director to his assistant
He told his secretary to hire
the Indian to predict the weather.

감독은 조감독에게 말했다.
"그 인디언 정말 대단한 사람인데?
그 사람에게 돈을 주고 계속 날씨를
알려 달라고 해야겠어."


However,
after several successful predictions for money,
the old Indian didn’t show up for two weeks.

인디언은 돈을 받고 몇 번 날씨를 알려주었다.
그런데 어느 날부터 며칠 째
계속 인디언이 나타나지 않았다.


"I was wondering
what made the Indian weatherman
not to show for weeks?"
said the director to his assistant.
Finally the director sent for him.

감독이 조감독에게 말했다.
"그 인디언 요즘 왜 안 나오지?
내일 중요한 촬영이 있으니
날씨를 알려 달라고 해."


"We have to shoot a big scene tomorrow,"
said the director’s messenger,
"and we’re strongly depending on you.
What will the weather be like tomorrow?"
The Indian shrugged his shoulders.
"Don’t know," he said.
"Radio broken."

조감독이 인디언을 찾아가서 날씨를 묻자
인디언이 대답했다.
"몰라. 갑자기 라디오가 고장 났어."

It seems there is a lesson hidden
in an interesting story.
Rather than relying too much
on groundless predictions,
why don’t we have the attitude
of being ready and prepared in everyday life?

근거 없는 예언을 맹신하기 보다는
평소에 대비하고 준비하는
자세가 더 필요하겠죠?
